5.9. Check and replacement of sensors of ignition (Motronic system)

Some models are equipped with the VMT sensor installed on an engine front. This sensor is intended for work with the block of testing of BMW and does not belong to system of ignition Motronic. |
RPM meters and provisions
Check
|
|
- Find two electric sockets of sensors. The socket of gray color(s) belongs to the situation sensor, and black (In) - to the RPM meter.
Early models
|
|

Late models
- On each socket from the sensor check an ohmmeter resistance between contact 1 (a yellow wire) and contact 2 (a black wire). Resistance has to be ranging from 860 to 1060 Ohms.
- Also check resistance between contact 3 and either contact 1, or 2. Resistance has to make, about, 1000 Ohms.
- If indications wrong, replace the sensor(s).

Replacement
|
|
|
|
- Unscrew the screw(s) of fastening of the sensor, if necessary having applied a prutkovy key, and separate the sensor(s) from sockets. Disconnect wires from sensors on one - be convinced that sockets at installation of new sensors are not mixed. On a coupling case the space for the sensor of situation is noted In (the gray socket), and under the RPM meter - D (the black socket).

When sensors are taken from sockets, it is expedient to check a condition of a ledge on a flywheel. Turn manually the engine that the ledge appeared under review. |
- Tighten carefully the screw(s) of fastening of sensors, at the same time be attentive that not to draw screws.

Sensor of impulses (late models)
Check
|
|
|
|
- Find two electric sockets of sensors. Disconnect the socket from the forward sensor.
|
|
|
- Ohmmeter check on each socket from sensors resistance between contact 1 (a yellow wire) and contact the 2nd (black) wire. Resistance has to make from 500 to 600 Ohms.
|
- If indications wrong, replace the sensor.
|

Replacement
|
|
|
|
- Six-sided key of 5 mm turn off a bolt of fastening of the sensor of impulses. The sensor of impulses (it is shown by an arrow) is located on a gas distribution belt cover on the one hand of a pulley (late models). Take the sensor from an arm and remove it.
|
|
|
- At installation of the new sensor between the end of the sensor and a rotor use the bronze probe to observance of the correct distance. The ledge of the sensor has to be established at distance 1.0 ± 0.3 mm from a sensor rotor.
|
- Tighten a fastening bolt, being careful that not to draw it.
|
