17. Routine maintenance of the car

Schedule of routine maintenance

The offered recommendations assume independent performing procedures of service of the car by its owner unlike the works which are carried out at car repair shop of dealer office of the BMW company. Though this schedule is made on the basis of recommendations of manufacturer, intervals between the majority of procedures, at the discretion of the owner of the car, it is possible to reduce, for example, check and replacement of lubricants and liquids should be made with the intervals providing the maximum service life of the engine or drive. Besides, if the owner of the car is interested in supporting him in a condition of the maximum readiness for operation on a case of possible resale, many procedures can be performed more often. We only welcome a similar initiative.

Initial service and check of the new car has to be made at car repair shop of dealer office of firm for the purpose of performance of conditions of the guarantee certificate. In most cases such check is made free of charge (apply for further information in dealer office of firm).

Weekly or through each 400 km of a run (that will come earlier)

• Check the level of motive oil (Section Check of Levels of Liquids)
• Check the level of cooling liquid of the engine (Section Check of Levels of Liquids)
• Check the level of brake fluid (Section Check of Levels of Liquids)
• Check the level of liquid of coupling (Section Check of Levels of Liquids)
• Check the level of liquid of washers of glasses (Section Check of Levels of Liquids)
• Check a condition of tires and pressure in them (The section Check of a Condition of Tires and Pressure in them)  

Two times a year or each 10 000 km of a run (that will come earlier)

All listed above points, plus:

• You make replacement of motive oil and an oil filter (Section Replacement of Motive Oil and Oil Filter)
• Check the level of liquid of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel (Section Check of Level of Liquid of System of Hydrostrengthening of a Wheel)
• Check tires and you make their rotation if necessary (Section Rotation of Wheels)
• Check the level of AT liquid (Section Check of Level of Lubricant Liquid of Automatic Transmission)
• Check a condition of hoses in a motive compartment (Section Check of a State and Replacement of Hoses of a Motive Compartment)
• Check a state and you make adjustment of a tension of driving belts (The section Check of a State, adjustment of a tension and replacement of driving belts)
• You make check of turns of idling of the engine and contents WITH (The section Check and adjustment of turns of idling of the engine and the SO level)  

Annually or each 20 000 km of a run

All listed above points, plus:

• You make check and service of the battery (The section Check of a Condition of the Battery, care of it and charging)
• Check spark plugs (The section Check and replacement of spark plugs)
• Check and if necessary replace wire VV, a cover of the distributor of ignition and its runner (The section Check and replacement of candle VV of wires, a cover and the runner of the distributor)
• Check the level of the RKPP gearbox oil and if necessary you make having added (The section Check of Level of Oil in a manual box of gear shifting)
• Check the level of lubricant liquid of differential (Section Check of Level of Lubricant Liquid of Differential)
• You make check and if necessary adjustment of gaps of valves (does not treat M40 engines) (The section Check and adjustment of gaps of valves)
• Check a state and grease the drive of a butterfly valve (The section Check and lubricant of draft of the drive of a butterfly valve)
• You make replacement of the air filter (Section Replacement of the Air Filter)
• Check functioning of fuel system (Section Check of Fuel System)
• Check the cooling system (Section Check of Functioning of the Cooling System)
• Check a condition of system of production of the fulfilled gases (Section Check of a Condition of System of Production of the Fulfilled Gases)
• Check components of system of steering and suspension brackets (Section Check of a Condition of Components of a Suspension Bracket and Steering)
• Check a condition of covers of power shafts (Section Check of a Condition of Protective Covers of Power Shafts)
• Check operation of the brake system (Section Check of the Brake System)
• You examine and if necessary replacement of brushes of a screen wiper of a windshield (Section Check of a State and Replacement of Brushes of Screen Wipers)

Time in two years or each 40 000 km of a run (that will come earlier)

All listed above points, plus:

• You make replacement of the AT transmission liquid and the filter (Section Replacement of Transmission Liquid and AT Filter)
• You make discharge, washing and filling of the cooling system (The section Plums, washing and filling of the cooling system)
• You make replacement of spark plugs (The section Check and replacement of spark plugs)
• You make check/replacement of VV of wires of spark plugs (The section Check and replacement of candle VV of wires, a cover and the runner of the distributor)
• You make replacement of the fuel filter (Section Replacement of the Fuel Filter)
• You make replacement of the RKPP gearbox oil (Section Replacement of Gearbox Oil of Manual Transmission)
• You make replacement of lubricant liquid of differential (Section Replacement of Lubricant Liquid of Differential)
• Check system of catching of vapors of gasoline where it is available (Section Check of Functioning of System of Catching of Vapours of Gasoline (EVAP))
• You make control of an alarm lamp of a reminder on approach of term of planned maintenance (The section Control of an Alarm Lamp of the Notification on approach of the term of planned maintenance (TPM))
• You make replacement of brake fluid with the subsequent pumping of system (see the Head the Brake system)
• Check functioning of the parking brake (see the Head the Brake system)

Each 96 000 km

• Replace a gear belt of the drive of the camshaft (Section Replacement of a Distributive Belt of the Engine)
