17:13. Check and adjustment of turns of idling of the engine and SO level
Two times a year or each 10 000 km of a run (that will come earlier)

The engine has to be heated-up up to the normal working temperature, with correctly established corner of an advancing of ignition and the adjusted gaps of valves (where they are adjusted). The air filter has to be in good shape, and all electric components (including the air conditioning system where it is available) have to be switched off. |
Carburetor
|
|
- Connect a tachometer and the analyzer of the fulfilled gases (SO measuring instrument) to the engine.
- Start the engine on single turns.
|
|
- Check whether there correspond idling turns to the values specified in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management. Adjustment is possible only on the 2B4 carburetor. Turn the screw of adjustment of turns of idling before achievement of the required value.
|
- If idling turns on the carburetor 2B4 are lower than norm, and conducting of the carburetor is not damaged anywhere, it is possible to establish resistance in a contour of management. This procedure is in competence of dealer office of the BMW service.

- Verify indications of the SO measuring instrument with provided in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management of values. If they do not coincide, turn the screw of adjustment of mix (2) until they do not coincide.

L-Jetronic
|
|
- Connect a tachometer and the SO measuring instrument to the engine. Mechanics of BMW use special WITH - a tester which probe is installed in the pipeline of system of release, but it is possible to use a usual tester which is inserted into an exhaust pipe. However pay attention that on models with the catalytic converter (the converter of exhaust gases) on an exhaust pipe it is impossible to receive the correct indications of contents WITH.
- Start the engine on single turns.
- Check whether there correspond idling turns to the values specified in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management. If is not present, remove a protective cap from a casing of the air gate and turn the screw of adjustment of turns of idling before achievement of the necessary value.
- Verify indications of the SO measuring instrument with provided in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management of values. The screw of control of mix is located on the measuring instrument of an air stream, and for adjustment the special tool (BMW No. 13 1 060) can be required.

- It is impossible to adjust manually idling turns as the stabilizing pneumatic valve of idling is put in action by an electronic control unit. If at a normal working temperature of the engine turns of idling do not correspond to the values specified in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management, check system of an intake of air for existence of leaks, and also work of the stabilizing pneumatic valve (see the Head the Power supply system).

- Verify indications of the SO measuring instrument with provided in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management of values. If adjustment is required, take a cap from the measuring instrument of an air stream...

... also turn the adjusting screw before obtaining the required value (on some models the six-sided key can be required). In conclusion establish a new protective cap.
