3.2. General information on antifreeze
|
Do not allow hit of antifreeze on open parts of the body and the painted surfaces of the car. Immediately wash away incidentally got drops a plentiful amount of water. Antifreeze is extremely poisonous liquid which hit in an organism even in insignificant quantities can have a lethal outcome. Never leave antifreeze in an open container or spilled on a garage floor - its sweetish smell can easily attract children and animals. Eliminate leaks in the cooling system immediately as soon as you notice them. |
Filling of the cooling system has to be made by antifreeze solution on the basis of ethylene glycol in water in the ratio 40:60 which will provide its resistance to freezing at temperatures approximately to -27 °C. Besides, antifreeze raises a cooler boiling point, and also (if it high quality) provides corrosion counteraction.
The cooling system should be merged, washed out and again to fill through certain periods (see the Head Routine maintenance of the car). The old or polluted antifreeze solution quite can will serve as the reason of serious damages, and also to stimulate formation of a rust and scum in system. Whenever possible try to use with antifreeze distilled, or clear rain water. Water from the crane can approach if it is not too "rigid".
Before a flood of antifreeze check a condition of all hose connections since antifreeze has property to filter through the most insignificant thinnesses. In normal conditions the engine does not spend a cooler therefore if its level falls, it is necessary to find out the reason of it and to eliminate it.
Mix of antifreeze has to be made in the correct proportion; addition of too large amount of antifreeze reduces system effectiveness of cooling. If necessary before gas station it is possible to consult the map of rules of drawing up cooling mix on a container with antifreeze. The areometer, necessary for check of a cooler, can be bought in shop of auto parts. Try to use the antifreezes recommended by the producer of the car.
