3.5. Work check, removal and installation of the fan of cooling of the engine and coupling of its drive

In order to avoid possible damages DO NOT OPERATE the car with the idle fan of cooling of the engine. Do not try to repair the damaged fan blades - replace the fan. Besides, the auxiliary electric fan installed before a radiator or the condenser of air conditioning can be turned on without start of the engine or inclusion of ignition. Its work is regulated by cooler temperature by means of the temperature sensors switches located on a radiator.

Auxiliary electric fan

This fan on the majority of models is run by two temperature sensors switches located in a radiator: one for work at low temperatures with a low speed of rotation, another - at high temperatures with a high speed of rotation. Everyone their switches works at a certain temperature of a cooler (see the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management).

The switches of high and low speed of operation of the auxiliary fan operated by the thermostat are located in radiator tanks, in different places depending on type of the engine and model of the car (see an illustration). Either one can be established double, or two unary switches.

  1. Insert the small screw-driver into the socket to wring out the blocking uvula, and disconnect conducting of the fan.
  2. For check of the motor of the fan disconnect the electric socket of the motor by means of a wire from set for start of the car from an external source connect the fan directly to the battery. If at the same time the fan does not work, so the motor is faulty and has to be replaced. If the fan works, then it is possible that the switch is faulty. Make the check corresponding to model of your car for more exact diagnostics.

Turn the motor of the auxiliary fan a hand to check whether jammed it. Before it, however, make sure that the engine cooled down sufficiently and there is no danger of spontaneous turning on of the fan during check.

  1. For check low - and high-speed contours disconnect the electric socket of one of switches and connect socket plugs a short piece of a wire. The fan has to work with low or high speed, depending on what switch was disconnected. On some models before start of the fan it is necessary to include ignition.
  2. Repeat check on other switch.
  3. If it is low - and high-speed contours are serviceable, but the fan nevertheless works badly, replace the switch (or switches). To remove the switch, merge a cooler of the switch up to one level lower than level (see the Head Routine maintenance of the car), then give screws, remove the old switch and establish new. Add a cooler in system.
  4. If switches are serviceable, but the motor nevertheless does not work, then a problem most likely in a faulty safety lock, the relay or the conducting connecting components (or the motor of the fan). Attentively check a safety lock, the relay, all conducting and sockets. Apply for detailed information on conducting such checks to the Head Sistema of onboard electric equipment.

The mechanical fan with the viscosity coupling

  1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery and shake the fan a hand here and there to check bearing side play size.

If the radio receiver of your car is equipped with system of protection against theft, make sure that you gathered the correct code before a battery detachment.


If after connection of the battery of an inscription on an instrument guard appeared not in that language, address the Section System of Protection of the Audio System from theft and language of an instrument guard where the procedure of installation of the necessary language is described.

  1. Let's the engine cool down and turn fan blades a hand. They have to turn with a small resistance.
  2. Examine assembly of the coupling of the fan on existence of signs of serious leak of liquid. If such leak is available, replace assembly of the coupling.
  3. Warm up the engine up to the working temperature, switch off ignition and disconnect a negative wire of the battery. Turn the fan a hand. This time resistance has to be stronger. If blades are turned easily, it is necessary to replace the fan coupling.

  1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery.
  2. To remove the auxiliary fan, follow the procedure, the corresponding model of your car.
  3. Give screws and remove the covering panel before a radiator.
  4. Otboltite assembly of the fan from points of fastening of the condenser.
  5. Disconnect the electric socket of the fan.
  6. Remove the fan and a casing from the car, trying not to damage the condenser of the air conditioning system where it is available at removal of the fan.
  7. You make installation upside-down.

The mechanical fan with the viscosity coupling

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery. Give screws or remove plastic fastenings of a casing of the fan and disconnect a casing (see the Section Removal and installation of a radiator).
  1. The cooling fan on the water pump fastens to a shaft by means of a nut with the left-side carving located directly behind the fan.
  1. By means of a 32-millimeter key remove assembly of the fan/coupling. Place a key on a big nut before a pulley and knock on the end of a key - And a metal drift - In to weaken a nut.

This nut has a left-side carving therefore it is possible to give it turn clockwise if to look at the car in front.

  1. Take assembly of the fan/coupling (and a casing if it is necessary) from a motive compartment.
  1. If it is necessary, give four bolts of fastening of a pulley to a nave of the water pump. The pulley then can be removed, having taken off driving belts.
  1. Attentively examine fan blades on existence of defects and damages. Replace them if it is necessary.
  2. Now the fan can be otboltit from the coupling if it is necessary. If you are going to put the fan coupling on a regiment, put it so that the party directed to a radiator looked down.
  3. You make installation upside-down
