10.3. Check of work and replacement of the elastic coupling

Check

Though experts of BMW do not stipulate concrete intervals of performance of checks of the elastic coupling located between forward section of the driveshaft and transmission it it is necessary to examine every time when you work under the car. The coupling is made of rubber and therefore it is susceptible to impacts of blows of road gravel on it, heat developed by system of release and also to twisting of the driveshaft. Examine the coupling on existence of cracks, gaps, the dropped-out fragments and deformations. Replace the worn-out or damaged coupling.

Replacement

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the driveshaft (see the Section Removal and installation of the driveshaft).
  1. Give nuts and bolts of the elastic coupling and remove the coupling from the driveshaft.

It will be easier to install bolts on the elastic coupling if to fix it not movably by means of a hose piece.


  1. Install the new coupling with NEW samokontryashchimisya nuts. If on the coupling marking in the form of arrows is put, they have to be directed to flange levers, but not to heads of bolts. Tighten nuts with the required effort.
  1. Install the driveshaft (see the Section Removal and installation of the driveshaft).
