12:11. Adjustment of the parking brake

Models with drum back brake mechanisms

Adjustment of a cable (cables) of the parking brake on models with drum back brake mechanisms can be required only if you replace a cable or for some reason disconnect it from assembly of the back brake mechanism. Failure of the system of the parking brake usually happens owing to wear of brake boots or malfunction of the mechanism of self-regulation.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Back of the car and reliably establish to Poddomkratta it on axial support.
  2. Completely release the lever of the parking brake, then several times strongly squeeze out a brake pedal.
  3. Cock the lever of the parking brake on five clicks.
  4. Tighten or release adjusting nuts on identical quantity of turns so that boots of back brake mechanisms were only slightly attracted to the brake drum. You have to feel the identical resistance of both wheels at rotation.
  5. Release the lever of the parking brake and make sure that wheels rotate freely. If it not so, adjust them again.

Models with disk back brake mechanisms

On models with disk back brake mechanisms the system of the parking brake is not self-regulating. Therefore the parking brake demands periodic adjustment to compensate wear. Besides, it it is necessary to regulate every time during the replacing or removal for any reason of a cable, a brake disk or assembly of the parking brake.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Slowly cock the parking brake and count the number of clicks of the lever. If the lever is cocked more, than on eight clicks, adjust a cable of the parking brake as follows.
  2. Unbend a cover of the lever of the parking brake and release a nut of adjustment of a cable. On some models for this purpose it is necessary to remove all central console.
  3. Release on one bolt on each back wheel. The car and reliably establish to Poddomkratta it on axial support.
  4. Give bolts which you released on both back wheels. Rotate a wheel until by means of a wrench you do not see a regulator castor through an opening under a bolt.
  5. Turn the regulator - clockwise to part boots, and counterclockwise to shift them - so far boots of a brake will not adjoin to the brake drum. Establish brake boots so that the wheel rotated freely (three or four teeth of the regulator).

If the castor of the regulator turns hardly, remove a wheel and a brake disk, grease a castor of the regulator and try once again.

  1. At the established disk three times cock the parking brake to stretch and put cables, then slowly pull the lever of the parking brake before the fifth click up. Tighten adjusting nuts of cables on identical quantity of turns so that back brake boots only adjoined to the brake drum. Make sure that both wheels give identical resistance at rotation.
  2. Release the parking brake and make sure that both back wheels rotate freely.
  3. Tighten bolts of fastening of wheels with the required effort.
