12:12. Check of a state, removal and installation of assembly of the parking brake

Overlays of boots of the parking brake on models with disk back brake mechanisms can be made from asbestos materials. Pay attention to the Prevention at the beginning of the Section Replacement of Boots of Drums of Brake Mechanisms. At service of these components do not create dust friction or grinding of slips.

The system of the parking brake should be checked regularly. Having put the car on a hill, cock the parking brake, establish neutral transfer and check whether one parking brake will be able, at the released brakes to hold the car (during check you should be in the car). However every two years, or in case of suspicion on malfunction, it is necessary to survey assembly of the parking brake.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Поддомкратив the car and having installed it on axial support, remove back wheels.
  2. On models with drum back brake mechanisms make the ordinary procedure of check of thickness of overlays of brake boots described in the Head Routine maintenance of the car.
  3. On models with disk back brake mechanisms remove back disks as it is described in the Section Survey, removal and installation of a brake disk. Suspend assemblies of a support on a clothes hanger or a thick wire; do not disconnect brake lines from a support.
  4. At the removed disk components of the parking brake become well visible, and they can be examined on existence of signs of wear and damages. Usually service life of slips same, as at the car. However they can wear out if the system of the parking brake is badly adjusted or if the parking brake is constantly used for a car stop. There is no minimum admissible value of thickness of overlays for boots of the parking brake, but practice shows that if it less than 1.5 mm, slips it is necessary to replace. Check also springs and the mechanism of adjustment and survey a drum on existence of deep scratches or other damages.

Removal and installation

The procedure given below belongs only to models with disk back brake mechanisms. The system of the parking brake on models with drum back brake mechanisms is an integral part of assembly of the back brake mechanism (see the Section Replacement of Boots of Drums of Brake Mechanisms).


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Release bolts of fastening of back wheels, a back of the car and reliably establish to a poddomkratta it on axial support. Remove back wheels. Remove brake disks (see the Section Survey, removal and installation of a brake disk). Work at the same time only with one party of the car that another could serve as a sample at assembly and not to mix a detail.
  1. Remove a coupling spring of the lower boot (at the same time diagonal nippers since they well take a spring are used, but it is necessary to be careful not to damage a spring).
  1. Remove a coupling spring of the top boot.
  1. Remove the holding springs of boots.
  1. Take off brake boots.
  1. You make installation upside-down. Upon termination of work the executive mechanism should be installed correctly between two boots, as shown in a photo (the nave is removed for descriptive reasons).
  1. After installation of a brake disk adjust boots of the parking brake. Temporarily spread two bolts of fastening of wheels, turn the regulator and move apart boots so to block a disk, then turn it in the opposite direction so that boots did not brake (see the Section Adjustment of the Parking Brake). Establish bolts of fastening of wheels and tighten them with the required effort.
