12.3. Replacement of blocks of disk brake mechanisms

Disk brake shoes need to be replaced on both wheels at the same time - NEVER replace blocks only on one wheel. Besides, the dust created by the brake system may contain the asbestos harmful to your health. Never delete it by means of compressed air and do not inhale it. During the work with brakes it is necessary to put on the special filtering mask. Never, under no circumstances, use solvents on the basis of gasoline for washing of details of brakes. Use only a cleaner of the brake system! At service of disk brakes use only original or high-quality company brake shoes.


Brake fluid is poisonous. It also strongly dissolves paint. See the Prevention at the beginning of the Section Pumping of Hydraulic System of Brakes.


The procedure described below belongs both to lobbies, and to back disk brake mechanisms.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Uncover (covers) the tank with brake fluid and merge about two thirds of liquid from the tank. If you do not make it, liquid will be poured from the tank at pressing in of pistons of a support in their openings.
  2. Release bolts of fastening of wheels, a front or a back of the car and reliably establish to a poddomkratta it on axial support.
  3. Remove forward or back wheels, as necessary. Work with each party of brakes in turn that the collected party if necessary could serve as a sample at assembly.
  4. Attentively survey a brake disk as it is described in the Section Survey, removal and installation of a brake disk. If machining is required, remove a disk as it is described in the same Section, at the same time it is possible to remove blocks from supports also.
  5. Following descriptions on illustrations below, make the procedure of removal of brake shoes.

Here the photos describing the procedure for back supports are not provided; differing by the size a little, on a design they are identical to forward brake supports.


Some models can have excellent from shown in this Chapter of number and types of protivovizgovy laying and other details. Before dismantling it is necessary to pay attention to how details are installed in the car further to have an opportunity it is correct to collect them.


  1. Disconnect the electric socket of the sensor of wear of a brake shoe.
  1. Remove caps from bolts of fastening of a brake support and give bolts.
  1. Take a protivovizgovy spring.
  1. Push through the piston the With-shaped clip.
  1. Remove a support and an internal brake shoe.
  1. Remove an internal brake shoe from the piston.
  1. Suspend a support on a piece of a wire that it did not prevent work.
  1. Remove an external brake shoe - to establish new blocks, repeat the procedure upside-down.
  1. Do not forget to examine sensors of wear of blocks (only a forward left wheel, or forward left and back right wheels). If they as it should be, reinstall them from old blocks on new; if they wore out from friction, install new sensors on new blocks.
  2. Installation of new blocks repeats the procedure of removal upside-down. At installation of a support make sure that all fixing bolts are tightened with the required effort.
  3. Upon completion of work strongly squeeze out a brake pedal several times to bring blocks into contact with disks. The pedal has to be at normal height from a floor and not sink down. Check the level of brake fluid and if necessary add it to the tank. Carefully check whether there is no leak of liquid and whether brakes before normal operation of the car well work.
  4. Whenever possible avoid sharp braking the first 80 - 100 km of a run until new blocks get used to the place.
