2.1.10. Replacement of forward epiploons

All epiploons are established by sponges inside (to the engine).

M10 and M30 engines (with a distributive chain)

Forward epiploon of a cam-shaft (only for M30 engines)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove only the top cover of a distributive chain (see the Section Removal and installation of covers of a distributive chain).
  2. Prop up a cover two wooden whetstones and beat out an epiploon from the back party by means of the hammer and the screw-driver. Be careful, trying not to damage in the course of work an opening for an epiploon.
  3. Cover the outer diameter and sponges of a new epiploon with universal lubricant and establish an epiploon in a cover by means of the hammer and a replaceable head with a diameter, slightly smaller, than the outer diameter of an epiploon.
  4. You make the rest of installation as it should be, the return to removal.

Forward epiploon of the crankshaft (M10 and M30 engines)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove a pulley of the crankshaft and a damper of tortional fluctuations (see the Section Removal and installation of covers of a distributive chain).
  2. Carefully take an old epiploon from a cover by means of the big screw-driver. Be extremely careful not to damage the screw-driver an opening for an epiploon or the crankshaft. Wrap up a screw-driver sting an insulating tape to prevent possible damages.
  3. Clear an opening for an epiploon in a cover, cover the outer edge of a new epiploon with engine oil or universal lubricant. Also grease epiploon sponges with universal lubricant. Using a replaceable head with a diameter, a little smaller, than the outer diameter of an epiploon, carefully establish a new epiploon into place by means of the hammer.
  1. If the suitable replaceable head is unavailable, the short piece of a pipe of big diameter will approach.
  1. Check an epiploon after installation to make sure that the spring around inside of sponges of an epiploon did not jump out.
  2. You make the rest of installation as it should be, the return to removal.

M20 and M40 engines (with a distributive belt)

Forward epiploon of a cam-shaft (M20 and M40 engines)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take off a distributive belt and an asterisk of a cam-shaft (see the Section Removal, survey and installation of a distributive belt and asterisks of its natyazhitel).
  2. Only on the M20 engine give two screws and remove a cam-shaft epiploon casing from a head of cylinders, pulling together and at the same time turning it forward and back.
  3. Only on M20 engines prop up a casing two wooden whetstones and with the help hammers and screw-drivers take from it an epiploon. Be very careful not to damage an epiploon casing.
  4. On M40 engines take an epiploon from a head of cylinders by means of the screw-driver, trying not to damage a surface of a cam-shaft or an opening for an epiploon.
  5. Cover sponges and outer diameter of a new epiploon with universal lubricant.
  6. On M40 engines wrap up an adhesive tape the end of a cam-shaft to protect a new epiploon from damage by an adjusting flute during its installation.
  1. Accurately put a new epiploon into place and at first press it a hand that it entered an opening. Establish an epiploon in a casing or a head of cylinders (that is provided) by means of the hammer and a replaceable head with a diameter, a little smaller, than the outer diameter of an epiploon. On M40 engines remove an adhesive tape from the end of a cam-shaft.
  1. On M20 engines replace a sealing ring of round diameter in a back part of a casing of an epiploon and pull epiploon sponges for the end of a cam-shaft. Install screws and tighten them with the required effort.
  2. You make the rest of installation as it should be, the return to removal.

Forward epiploons of cranked and intermediate shaft (M20 engines)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take off a distributive belt and pulleys of cranked and intermediate shaft if are provided (see the Section Removal, survey and installation of a distributive belt and asterisks of its natyazhitel).

We recommend to replace a distributive belt every time at its removal.

  1. Give bolts and nuts of fastening of a forward cover to the block of cylinders. Do not forget to give three bolts from below holding a forward part of the pallet of a case on the lower part of a forward cover.
  2. Carry out by a thin sharp knife between laying of the pallet of a case and a forward cover, separating thus laying from a cover. Be very careful not to damage and to soil laying that you could use it again then.
  3. Destroy laying sealant between a forward cover and the block of cylinders, having tapped a cover the hammer with rubber brisk or the ordinary hammer, having put wooden whetstone. Do not push anything between a cover and the block not to damage the surface of laying.
  4. Using a scraper, remove all traces of material of old laying from the interfaced surfaces of covers and the block of cylinders.

Be extremely careful not to damage and to scratch soft aluminum surfaces. Besides, try not to damage and not to soil laying of the pallet of a case. On sale are available, and there can be useful, special solvents for removal of laying. After full removal of material of laying of a surface of laying it is possible to degrease, having wiped them with the rag moistened in suitable solvent.

  1. Prop up a cover two wooden whetstones and beat out an epiploon from the back party by means of the hammer and the screw-driver. Be careful, trying not to damage in the course of work an opening for an epiploon.
  2. Cover the outer diameter and sponges of a new epiploon with universal lubricant and establish an epiploon in a cover by means of the hammer and a replaceable head with a diameter, slightly smaller, than the outer diameter of an epiploon.
  3. Apply a thin film of sealant like RTV on the surface of laying of the pallet of a case interfaced to a forward cover. You apply more sealant on edges where laying adjoins to the block of cylinders.

If laying of the pallet of a case is damaged, then instead of full replacement of laying you can try to cut off its forward part where it adjoins to the block of cylinders, then to cut off a forward part of new laying that it was just the same size. Cover the internal surface of the pallet with a piece of rags, then clean off all traces of material of old laying from the interfaced surfaces. Attach a piece of new laying to the pallet by means of special adhesive substance, then apply RTV sealant as it is described at the beginning of this paragraph.

  1. Grease both parties of new laying with RTV sealant, attach a forward cover to a forward part of the engine, carefully getting epiploons on cranked and intermediate shaft. Spread bolts and tighten them with the required effort. Tighten bolts one by one according to the crosswise scheme to make it evenly.

At first tighten bolts of fastening of a forward cover to the block of cylinders, then bolts of fastening of the pallet of a case to a cover. If laying acts over connection of a cover with the block or forms folds in connection of a cover with the pallet, cut it that it stood correctly.

After putting RTV sealant assembly has to be finished within 10 minutes to be in time before sealant hardening.

  1. You make the rest of installation as it should be, the return to removal.

Forward epiploon of a bent shaft (M40 engines)

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take off a distributive belt and an asterisk of the crankshaft (see the Section Removal, survey and installation of a distributive belt and asterisks of its natyazhitel).
  2. Take a segment spline from a flute on the end of the crankshaft.
  3. Notice the provision of an epiploon, then take it from a forward cover by means of the screw-driver, but try not to damage an opening for an epiploon or the surface of the crankshaft. If the epiploon stuck, drill two small openings in a metal part of an epiploon and by means of two self-tapping screws take an epiploon. Do not forget to remove all metal shavings.
  4. Cover the outer diameter and sponges of a new epiploon with universal lubricant and establish an epiploon in a cover by means of the hammer and a replaceable head with a diameter, slightly smaller, than the outer diameter of an epiploon. Make sure that the epiploon rose into place exactly.
  5. You make the rest of installation as it should be, the return to removal. Do not forget that the distributive belt is recommended to be replaced - see the Section Removal, survey and installation of a distributive belt and asterisks of its natyazhitel.
