2.2.24. Installation of a bent shaft and check of lubricant gaps of radical bearings

Installation of a bent shaft is the first important step at assembly of the engine. At this stage it is supposed that the block of cylinders and a bent shaft are cleared, examined and repaired or ground.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the block in the turned situation.
  2. Remove bolts of covers of radical bearings and uncover. For ensuring the correct assembly spread out them in the necessary order.
  3. Take from the block and from covers of radical bearings inserts of bearings if they still there are. Wipe the surfaces of bearings of the block and covers pure, not leaving fibers, with fabric. They have to be perfectly pure.

Check of lubricant gaps of radical bearings

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Clear reverse sides of new inserts of bearings and establish them in each saddle of bearings of the block. If one of inserts of each couple has a wide flute, then be convinced that the insert with a flute is installed in the block. Establish other inserts from each couple in the corresponding covers of radical bearings. Make sure that the ledge on an insert is combined with deepening in the block or a cover.

Lubricant openings in the block have to coincide with openings for lubricant in inserts. Do not hammer an insert into place and protect surfaces from emergence of jags and scratches. At this stage it is necessary to grease nothing.


  1. The persistent insert with a flange has to be established in a cover and a saddle No. 3 on the M10 engine, in a cover and a saddle No. 6 on the M20 engine, in a cover and a saddle No. 4 on the M30 engine and in only in a saddle No. 4 on the M40 engine.
  1. Wipe pure, not leaving fibers, with fabric of a surface of bearings in the block and necks of radical bearings of a bent shaft.
  2. Check or clean lubricant openings of a bent shaft as dirt from them will surely get directly to new bearings.
  3. When you are sure that you a bent shaft pure, carefully lay it on radical bearings.
  4. Before finalizing a bent shaft, it is necessary to check gaps for lubricant of radical bearings.
  1. Cut off several pieces of the corresponding length of the plastic calibrated wire (slightly well than width of radical bearings) and place on one piece on a neck of a bent shaft of each radical bearing, parallel to an axis of a bent shaft.
  1. Clear in covers of a surface of bearings and establish covers on appropriate places (do not mix them), at the same time shooters have to be turned to an engine front. Do not get moving forward pieces of a plastic wire.
  2. Having begun with the central radical bearing and moving to extreme, step by step tighten bolts of covers of radical bearings to the effort given in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management. On M10, M20 and M30 engines tighten bolts in three stages. On M40 engines at first tighten bolts to effort of a stage 1, then tighten bolts on the corner given in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management. Carry out a bolt dovorachivaniye on a certain corner one movement. In the course of tightening of bolts do not turn a bent shaft.
  3. Turn off bolts and carefully uncover radical bearings. Keep covers of radical bearings. Keep them as it should be. Do not touch a plastic wire and do not turn a bent shaft. If any covers of radical bearings are removed hardly, knock on them on both sides with the hammer with an elastic head.
  1. Compare width flattened a wire of each neck with the scale printed on packing of a plastic wire to receive value of a gap for lubricant in radical bearings. Check according to the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management their correctness.
  1. If the gap does not conform to requirements, then inserts of bearings can be the corresponding size (it means that others are necessary). Before making the decision on need of acquisition of other inserts, be convinced that between inserts of bearings and covers or the block at measurement of a gap there was no dirt or oil. If width of a wire was unequal on its length, then the neck, perhaps, has conicity (watch the Section Check of a Condition of a Bent Shaft).
  2. Carefully remove all traces of material of a wire from necks of bearings and/or the surfaces of bearings. Make it a nail or edge of a plastic credit card that on the surface of bearings there is no jag left or scratches.

Final installation of a bent shaft

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Carefully remove a bent shaft from the engine.
  2. Clear the surfaces of bearings of the block, then apply a thin, even layer of disulfidmolibdenovy lubricant or motive oil on both surfaces. Do not forget to grease persistent surfaces, also as well as the surface of a neck of the persistent bearing.
  3. Make sure that necks of a bent shaft pure, then again install a bent shaft into place in the block.
  4. Wipe the surfaces of bearings in covers, then oil their motive.
  5. Establish covers on their places, and shooters have to be turned to an engine front.
  6. Wrap a hand bolts.
  7. Slightly strike the ends of a bent shaft with the lead or bronze hammer to level the surfaces of radical bearings and persistent surfaces of a bent shaft.
  8. Tighten bolts of covers of bearings with the required effort, working from the center to edges. On M10, M20 and M30 engines tighten bolts to final effort, in three stages, passing bolts of a cover of the persistent bearing. On M40 engines tighten all bolts in two stages specified in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management.
  9. On M10, M20 and M30 engines tighten with the required effort given in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management, bolts of a cover of the persistent bearing.
  10. On models with manual transmission install the new auxiliary bearing for the end of a bent shaft (watch the Head Stsepleniye).
  11. Turn a hand several times a bent shaft to check existence of obvious jammings.
  12. The last stage is check by means of the probe or the dial indicator of an axial side play of a bent shaft as it is described in the Section Removal of a Bent Shaft. If persistent surfaces of a bent shaft are not worn-out and new bearings are not damaged and installed, then the axial side play has to be normal.
  13. Establish a new epiploon, then wrap bolts of fastening of the case of an epiploon to the block (watch the Section Installation of a Back Epiploon of a Bent Shaft).
